Christmas events in the Cotswold’s

Christmas is inching nearer and it’s time to start thinking about buying Christmas gifts and organising where to have your Christmas dinner. Will it be a traditional feast with the family or a posh meal out at a swanky restaurant?

In the lead up to Christmas, now’s the time also to start preparing your events calendar. Nearly every day through November and December there is a plethora of festive events to attend and start getting into the spirit.

The Cotswold’s, an area of outstanding natural beauty, has an array of exciting happenings for you and the family to attend. Whether you live there or will travel from outside, their Christmas events will not disappoint. Let’s have a look at some of the must see events of 2014 in the Cotswold’s.

Bath Christmas Market

Only in its second year, this charming little market is back by popular demand. Taking place near to the Roman Baths and bath Abbey you will find over 120 traditional wooden stalls showcasing a range of crafts and Christmas goodies. It runs for 18 days and last year pulled in around 300,000 visitors.

ESO Christmas Concert, Berkeley Castle

This popular event has been running for 13 years and is a great way to come and enjoy the castles ambience. Music is provided by the English String Orchestra under their leader; Michael Bochmann.

The event takes place early December and features haunting music form Bach, Vivaldi, Handel and much more. Afterwards you will be allowed to sip wine and taste mince pies alongside the Berkley family in the drawing room.

Victorian Late Night Christmas Shopping, Bourton on the Water

At 6pm they will have the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree ceremony to start off the celebrations. From then on you are free to stroll around, soaking up the festive atmosphere of days gone by. Many people will be dressed Victorian style and you are encouraged to join in.

The Cotswold school jazz band will be providing the music and there will be a Punch and Judy, fairground and Father Christmas to keep the kids happy.

Christmas Celebrations in Winchcombe

The people of Winchcombe have clubbed together and decided to put together a month long array of festive activities. From the start of December they will feature a carol concert, Christmas menu deals, crafty displays, local music and late night shopping.

Many local traders are joining in and providing over 30 stalls overflowing with yuletide wares. This event is in its fourth year and pulls in people from all over the U.K, increasing in numbers every year.

Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Christmas on the Railways

If you are looking for something a little different this festive season, hop on this steam train ride and finish by singing some carols. You start at Toddington at 7pm and embark the train for a ride up to Winchcombe. After arrival, you can join in the carol service while munching on delicious mince pies and tasty mulled wine.

On certain weekends special events are put on for the younger crowd. The kids get to ride a specially themed Santa steam train to Cheltenham, then visit Santa at his grotto where they will receive a gift.

The Cotswold’s really is an atmospheric place to be in the lead up to Christmas, with fun activities for all the family. With stunning scenery, sights and welcoming locals it’s a great area to absorb the magic of Christmas time.
